The 2008-2009 Surge 16U team in only their second tournament won the Potomac River Clash the weekend of September 27-28th. Posting a perfect record of 6 wins and no losses for the victory the girls moved their season record to 8-2. The Potomac River Clash was a World Qualifier and by winning Surge is now qualified to play in the Nationals next summer. With a combination of solid pitching, stingy defense, timely hitting and unmatched speed the 16u team allowed only 6 runs in the weekend event which was as much a match against Mother Nature as it was against the solid Northern Virginia teams in the tournament. Battling both rain and schedule changes made for even more challenges for the girls but in true Surge form they overcame all to post this impressive victory. A semi-final 3-2 win in ITB was an instant classic against a very solid Xplosin Team. Said Manager Terence McCormick “We proved this weekend we can and will compete at the 16U level. We have a lot to work on however but we feel confident that we are definitely on the right track towards many successful weekends to come.”
The 16u team is back in action the weekend of October 11th.
